HMCS ALGONQUIN
News & Events

The number of women on board was a new experience for the ship’s crew. Normally the crew consists of 20-25 women out of the nearly 300 that make up the ship’s company.
The trip was organized by the Canadian Forces Recruiting Group based in Borden who coordinated with HMCS Algonquin’s Above Water Warefare Officer Lt(N) Arthur Halpenny who took on the role of “Cruise Director” for the day

Passengers spent the day doing tours of the ship and watching demonstrations such as a man overboard drill, damage control equipment demonstrations and a boarding of the HMCS

There were other special passengers along for the day, members of the local Navy League Cadets joined the sail as well as local radio morning show host Michael Forbes from 98.5 the Ocean. Despite the foggy weather it was a great event and great opportunity for members of the crew to show off skills that they use every day.
